The purpose of this event is to allow members of the Den of Iniquity to try their hand at blending a whisky to produce Iniquity Single Malt Batch 017. Participants will operate in teams of three to develop and record a blend from 6 x 100ml samples of individual casks. Participants will be able to take the 600ml of samples home after the event. The event is limited to ten teams of three participants.
The team which designs the winning blend will see their blend made up as Iniquity Batch 017 that will be known as The Den’s Dram. Additionally, they will have their names on the back label and feature in a video on the blend accessed through the chip in the neck label and the Iniquity web site.
How it all works
Each team member will have 6 x 100ml cask samples, a glass and a place mat detailing the particulars of each cask with space to make notes. Each team will have a syringe, an empty sample bottle and an entry form on which to record the recipe for the blend. The samples will all be diluted to 46% ABV to simplify the calculations and the placemats will list the quantities available in each cask available for blending. The total batch size must be at least 240 litres.
Teams will be given ninety minutes to create and record their best effort at a blend. Only one blend per team will be accepted. At 8:30 PM teams will be required to hand up a 50ml sample and recipe sheet after which gourmet pizzas will be served. Drinks are available at the bar.
A video of the event will be made on the night. Participants may be interviewed. The winning team will be also be interviewed to explain the logic behind their winning blend.
The winning blend will be announced as soon as possible, and a larger batch made up so everyone can taste it and compare it to their own blend.
We suspect this event could be the most fun you can have with your pants on and your feet dry!
The cost is $99 per head and tickets can be bought here. If you don’t have two whisky drinking friends to make up a team, we will place you into one.
